We sat down with our lovely Dream Dresses founder, Phuong, to ask her some burning questions about custom-made wedding dresses. Phuong has been in this line of work since 2014 when she founded the company. She has been completely dedicated to designing and creating dream dresses for brides-to-be because every bride deserves to feel special in a unique piece made for them. What materials do you typically use when creating a custom wedding dress, and how do you choose them?
At Dream Dresses, we pride ourselves in opting for the best quality fabric and materials for our brides. Depending on the type of wedding dress our client wants, we can suggest fabrics and materials that suit it best. For example, tulle looks absolutely stunning for ball gowns as it creates that voluminous, luxurious look. Satin is ideal for fitted, sophisticated dresses such as a sheath silhouette. Often, I opt for silk, tulle, and crepe materials.
What advice would you give brides considering a custom wedding dress?
We would always advise our budding brides to have a concept in mind! It doesn't have to be thought out completely, but it's always a good start to have even a Pinterest board full of wedding dress styles you love, so we have a starting point. Once you know roughly what silhouette and design you would like, we can move on to the exciting part; the design phase!
How long does it typically take to create a custom wedding dress, from start to finish?
It really depends on the type of gown and how complicated the designs are! For example, for one of our gorgeous brides, Diana, her bespoke gown took nine months to make, from start to finish. However, custom-made gowns can take 4-8 months to create. Our talented team works hard to make sure every detail is perfect!
How do you stay up-to-date on the latest bridal fashion trends?
It's great to follow some bridal bloggers and magazines that always have their finger on the latest trends! Attending bridal shows, fashion shows, and events is another way to stay up to date.
What sets your custom wedding dress designs apart from others in the industry?
What we love most about custom wedding dress designs compared to off-the-rack dresses is that the bride really has input into how the gown will look. From the concept stage to design, our clients are with us every step of the way. And it is a wonderful, memorable experience for them, too! Not to mention no one else will have a gown like yours if you choose custom. I can offer fully custom designs from scratch, custom embroidery, custom-designed lace, and custom beadings, all with a custom size. Custom dresses are completely tailored to the client. That is what makes them so special and unique.
